It has been my opinion for many years that there exists no credible alternative to hydrocarbon fuels, specifically oil, and I know that these are finite. People talk about various alternatives, including hydrogen, and most simply have a religious like faith that "something" will come along to replace oil and oil products when it becomes necessary.

Wind turbines and tidal power may add a small percentage of the total requirements, but do not replace oil for portability and the various necessary chemicals such as fertilizers which are extracted from oil. It takes more energy to produce hydrogen then what you can get out of it.

So, I agree that oil has been and will continue to be a very good investment, but like gold, it is controlled and subject to various influences. I believe that even a small curtailment in oil supplies would not only result in a spectacular price, but also dramatically change our society. Nothing is more important than energy. Cheap energy supports our standard of living and makes possible all our modern activities. Why, it is even possible that as well as the totally humanitarian reasons for the Iraqi "war" and the eviction of the torturous Saddam, hidden in the war plans somewhere there might have been a minor consideration regarding the Iraqi oil fields.
