This is just anecdotal evidence but yesterday I bought a copy of the Los Angeles Times which I used to look at regularly about 4 years ago. I recall back then there being about 10 or 15 pages of employment want ads. This is a city of around 15 million people. In yesterdays paper there was exactly one page (front and back) of employment want-ads.

The same 15 pages of cars for sale want ads were there though.
