Conservatives are very hard to understand.

Maybe we should make a clear difference between conservatives and neo-conservatives.
With most conservatives, I experience a dialogue based on the idea of "finding the truth".

Neoconservatives are not interested in "truth", as they deny the existence of such a concept. They believe in deception and they are interested in distorting and destruction of dialogue in order to achieve their ideological goals.

This is a very dangerous path: I remember of a Serbian writer, who said in the beginning of the Yougoslavian tragedy, there was a systematic destruction of a rational dialogue. When this happened, political control by the public was impossible and government had free hand to start the war and oppress any opposition as "unpatriotic".
