This theory might be "logical", but it is probably untrue. In any
case, AMAT and NVLS adherents would have no complaints if you presented examples where small companies provide technology that
the larger companies don't have.

My "theory" is that large companies got that way by providing the
best critical technology and they have the large R&D budgets to
maintain their edge.
