The macro-results, well documented in history, usually obscure the realities of the INDIVIDUAL on the ground. The Nazis were defeated in war by the gradual destruction of their infrastructure, as well by the Russians sending in two for every one they lost. The situations where the Wehrmacht showed up fully-supplied and with reasonable objectives were reduced, little by little, through this attrition. But as late as April, 1945, in those scarce occasions where they HAD the resources AND a free hand, they decimated the Red Army units they were engaging, and swept them from the field in a rout.
