An Egyptian friend told me that clandestine teen-age sex is increasing in Egypt. Frightened of being discovered the couple sign a document of marriage, which imparts a possible religious OK. If they break up they destroy the document. This certainly starts them down the path of non-belief. It's a little sad to me. The usual ending of teen-age sex relations imparts a kind of tentativeness to such a relationship which to my early 20'th century mind would have seemed distressing. But anyway here we have a beginning of opposing the mullahs. Still the progress of the march towards reason and science away from theology, is slow. The battle between religion and reason is plenty important for our investments. (This last is a note to Big Brother Dave.)
