The pictures made the scandal sexual in nature since the prisoners were naked. Sex sells, the media know this.

The Pentagon's organizational defense mechanisms kicked in and prevented anyone who knew from reporting it up the chain to the Secretary of Defense, and formulating a plan of action response in the event the pictures came public. They also underestimated the media's appettite for this sort of thing.

Those in the military who work in the penal system are a little twisted with power. I witnessed it years ago but had hoped military leadership training and enforcement had curtailed the abuses.

Working in a prison is ugly. Most people avoid those jobs like the plague.

The President and the American people should be rightly pissed off!
