<I reflexively discount any belief that you're representative of New Zealand public opinion,>
Good idea. I'm not. I'm representative of my opinion, which changes from time to time. But you would find most of my attitudes are representative [but, as Gorby said of his economists, knowing that nine of them are wrong and one right, which one is right?]
Also, some of the things I write are tongue in cheek, or just for fun, or thinking out loud [not definite positions], none are lies [though when giving my address as Eketahuna, or offering double your money back guarantees, or explaining how the photovoltaic wings on satellites keep them up, it's fair to say that people are mostly not in a position to know I'm kidding, so they might misconstrue my comments - which is, I know, not the best way to establish trusted lines of communication].
<nobody can build a country relying on people whose minds change so frequently >
Beware the people who don't change their minds when their ideas bump up against reality and reality doesn't bend to their will as expected, so they go on banging their head, or usually somebody else's, against the wall of reality in an attempt to prove their original theory about reality correct.
A changing mind is a sensible one. Our job as humans is to form perceptions of reality, predict the future, and change the future before it gets here. Animals just respond to the instant with not much planning or environmental control. Predicting the future is notoriously difficult, so we need to change course and strategy often, as new shoals, reefs, storms and opposition arise.
<New Zealanders going to quarters because they don't want to be embarrassed by the wrongdoing of Brits or Americans is cowardice. Maybe that is what New Zealanders are these days, if so, it's sad, and won't be forgotten.>
Maybe they are thinking and thinking perhaps seems like cowardice to people who mindlessly shove their chest out and charge like the Light Brigade or hunt the Indians like Custer.
They won't get out there and do what you tell them, so they are cowards. Yeah, right. New Zealanders and their soldiers are cowards now? Yeah, that's right CB. Maybe you should consult the military allies they work with in Afghanistan [which isn't all that long ago], East Timor and elsewhere.
