"I know you don't get it, all you see is attacks on Bush, you don't get how horribly wrong this has gone."
Actually, I do get it. And if you have read what I've said on the subject, you'd know exactly how I feel about the prison abuse scandal & the how media has handled this story.
I can see that you are seriously upset about this. It's now to the point that you are attacking anyone who doesn't shut up about everything else & join you in your current feelings about the atrocities in Abu Ghraib.
I can't join you because I have absorbed the shock & horror of what took place. I've followed this story closely & have placed it in its' proper perspective based on what has been reported to date. Unfortunately, that means filtering through another round of typical liberal media mishandling of real news.
I don't see any overt attempts to cover up what happened. I see that the military immediately took all proper actions to investigate & prosecute when they were made aware of the abuses. From what the military has reported publicly, it has gone by the book. And they took steps to insure no more abuses would occur.
I'm taking a wait & see approach to events in the prison abuse scandal as they unfold. So far, there is nothing that gives me reason to become a a Bush or Rumsfeld basher.
I have fully expected that at some point something terrible was going to happen that would genuinely give the US a black eye. Based on how things have gone since Bush was elected, I fully expected the media to completely mishandle it as they have every trumped up, over hyped piece of BS they have attempted to turn into a genuine black eye story.
It finally happened. Abu Ghraib.
The liberal media didn't disappoint me one bit. They smelled blood & commenced with business as usual. That's their problem, not mine.
The abuses, while shocking & utterly deplorable, do not establish credible justification to repudiate the WOT or the removal of Saddam. It does not establish that the US no longer has any moral authority to continue to rebuild Iraq & work toward democracy there. And it doesn't change their right to continue the WOT.
My opinion is rational & justified based on facts & reality. I'm shocked & appalled at those who committed the atrocities, but the prison abuse scandal at this point just doesn't rise to the level to change my opinions on the WOT or Iraq.
However, it has increased my utter disdain for the liberal media. Blame them, not me for how they have handled it. |
