LuminentOIC Strengthens Management Team; Appoints VP Sales

May 6, 2004 Thursday
CHATSWORTH, Calif., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- LuminentOIC, a leading supplier of metro transceivers and Fiber-to-the-Premise solutions, today announced the appointment of VP of Sales.

Kevin Green has been appointed as vice president of Sales for LuminentOIC, where he will be responsible for North and South America and EMEA regions.

With 24 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, Green was most recently the COO of ExceLight Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric Industries. Prior to ExceLight, Green held various sales management positions at AT&T/Lucent Microelectronics. Green holds a Masters in Business Administration from Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a B.S. in engineering from University of Virginia.

"LuminentOIC has the critical combination of advanced technology and cost effective manufacturing that will allow us to win in this competitive market. In addition to its broad based product offering, I joined LuminentOIC because of its leadership position in both FTTX and DWDM SFP technologies," states Green.

This is the latest addition to the senior management team at LuminentOIC. Six months prior, LuminentOIC appointed Barry Kasarda as VP of Operations. Kasarda brings over 20 years of leadership experience in operations, product development, negotiations, and supply chain management. Prior to joining LuminentOIC, Kasarda held the positions of Vice President of Engineering/Product Development for Thyssen Krupp AG, a Fortune 50 global manufacturer of robotics where he oversaw the transfer of complex lines to offshore manufacturing, and Vice President of Materials/Procurement for Micropolis Corporation, a leader in the design and manufacture of high capacity/performance disk drives. Kasarda holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from California State University at Northridge.

"We are pleased with these two recent additions to our senior management team," said Near Margalit, CEO of LuminentOIC. "Barry's track record and experience in offshore production transfer, high volume manufacturing, and supply chain management combined with Kevin's comprehensive sales knowledge within the optical component industry, positions LuminentOIC to strengthen and excel in its leadership in the FTTP and Metro transceiver markets."

Excelight Announces Shipments of X2 and XFP Transceivers
DURHAM, N.C. -- ExceLight Communications, a U.S.-based unit of Sumitomo Electric Industries, announced that it will begin volume shipments of its XFP and X2 10Gb/s pluggable optical transceivers in spring 2004. The transceivers use Sumitomo's high-performance, uncooled 1310-nm DFB lasers in a compact TOSA to combine low cost and high performance. With an optimum thermal design of devices and circuitry, they also achieve low power consumption.........

"We have been sampling units to strategic customers," said Kevin Green, Chief Operating Officer at ExceLight. "They rate our clean optical output waveform as being better than our competitors' devices. The combination of low power and clean waveforms provide a cost-effective, high-performance solution for 10-Gb/s applications."

And Noam says, ............

"FTTP is the ultimate broadband solution. It has the potential to offer a totally new customer experience, including a delivery of new applications such
as high definition video over IP. LuminentOIC has been supplying optical transmission components for fiber to the curb and fiber to the home for over 10 years. We continue to be the innovation leader with multiple design wins and
aggressive pricing.

However, we set the bar higher and do not take our success for granted. As I said earlier during the quarter, LuminentOIC announced an industry-first, DWDM transmission in small form pluggable SFP transceiver. The SFP form factor is commonly used for fiber optic transmission including CWDM but never before for DWDM. LuminentOIC is the first to make DWDM work in an SFP form factor, and we
were the first to sample it.

We believe that today we are the only ones shipping such product. We anticipate competitors to offer similar products within a few months. Having the early mover advantage, we aim to remain number one. With that, let me turn back the call to the operator for q-and-a. Operator?"
