It's not just a result of photographing the abuse- it's a result of the abuse. Let's lay the primary blame where it is due. Unless we killed all those prisoners, they would get out and talk about their experiences to other Iraqis.
I agree that the primary blame is with the abusers (and also with the system that fostered them, it if did) but the crisis wouldn't be a crisis save the photographs. Lots of people have claimed abuse. What they have said may be true or they may be lying. Without proof there is abuse but no crisis. The abuse and the crisis over the abuse are separate entities for purpose of impact. The abuse is already done. If one wants to win the war, one avoids the crisis, if possible.
