| One still needs to read The Denial of Death, Becker, and The Question of God, Nicholi before buying this wholesale. Freud, particularly, was pessimistic and detached. He did not get to "happiness" by any account that I know of. In particular, Christianity itself has much to say about suffering, transcience and death and little about perfection, except in reference to god. Of course Buddhism is all about suffering and how it might be avoided by detachment. But the Jews know something about it quite directly, not theologically. It's not offensive that we are like worms, etc., etc., all that.....but the rest of the window dressing and revision......well, whatever works. The book looks like interesting science. |
