Rush's statements are a good example of the "9/11 changed everything" viewpoint.

If you accept that the war against Iraq is a direct and justified response to 9/11, the torture of the prisoners doesn't seem to terrible. What are a few tortured terrorists as compared to 3,000 people brutally murdered. Also, some of those prisoners may have information that could prevent another attack, except far worse than 9/11. If by torturing those prisoners 100,000 American lives were saved, would you still condemn the torture?

That is the view that is held by a substantial part of our population. It is also the view held by our military, who believe they are in Iraq to avenge 9/11. Our government, our media and much of our citizenry have encourage this view.

If you were a military police officer, and you had one of the perpetrators of 9/11 under your power, how far would you go to make him talk?

Those who question that viewpoint are viewed as appeasers and terrorist sympathizers.
