I hear you on all counts
but let me say this, then almost done on this debate

currently practiced Islam has departed far from what the religion laid out and embraced in the year 1000 AD
they have branched out into absurd Shiite side, which has a foundation of villification, masochism, desecration, and vengeance, which border on demonism
they have schools (Madrassas) which would not pass in this country as competent day care centers, let alone educational centers
they have a fundamental anti-Jewish streak which would probably annoy Mohammed himself tremendously
you speak somewhat of theoretical Islam and its foundations
maybe I misread you
current Islam has grossly departed from its true path

it reminds me of Catholicism in the western world
half of it is not really Christian, non-Biblical, but rather sickly Papal and Matriarchal (worship the pope and Mother Mary)
when I meet a Catholic, sometimes I ask if he/she is a Christian
that usually is met with a broad quizzical look
even Catholics dont understand their Christian root or not
sadly, Catholicism is now the artifact of the Holy Roman Empire, a political entity which held the Roman culture during the dark ages

take it easy
if Egypt (cradle of Moslem culture) has no semblance of democratic thought, then dont look for it anywhere else in the Moslem world
I hear you on the nepotism issue
reminds me of a good friend who used to live in Italy for many years
to get ahead, you have to marry the owner's son
or sleep with him, men or woman
most businesses are run by the family
the sons take the top spots, then find competent managers
the sons take all the credit when things go well
they pass on the blame to their lieutenants when things go badly

Egypt and Italy might have much in common
esp if their women (like in Italy) refuse the use of a rubber condom during unmarried sex to test if you really love them, since only prostitutes use prophys
methinks the link between the two countries has its basis in Cleopatra and Marc Anthony <G>
