Shorts really got fried today. PPT waited until most of the indices broke down on volume which activated a lot of sell stops cleaning out longs AND...signaling shorts to get positioned on the 1st uptick opportunity. Then.... WHAM! In comes the PPT buying index calls to ramp the markets right back up. That ran the buy stops on the new shorts forcing them to immediately cover for losses. Real nasty whip saw action once again THE trademark of this YTD market environment. And once again reaffirms the more conservative approach of not sticking your neck out too far with either bullish or bearish positioning tactics in a market as brutal as this one has proven to be.
