washingtonpost.com was a double winner today at the 2004 EPpy Awards for the online media.

The site was honored as the best news service on the Internet among sites with more than 1 million monthly visitors. It also won the award for best Internet entertainment service. Other major winners included nytimes.com as best overall Internet site with more than 1 million monthly visitors.

"We are very pleased to be recognized for the quality of our news coverage and our entertainment product, which is of enormous importance to our readers, especially in the Washington area," said Douglas B. Feaver, executive editor of washingtonpost.com.

The 2004 EPpy Awards, presented by Editor & Publisher and Mediaweek magazines, honor Internet sites affiliated with the media industry, especially newspapers, television networks and affiliates, radio networks, syndicated shows, and local radio stations.

washingtonpost.com, the Web site of The Washington Post, won the best news site award for its coverage of three major stories in 2003 – the war in Iraq, the Columbia disaster and Hurricane Isabel.

washingtonpost.com's Entertainment Guide was redesigned in late 2003 to provide even greater emphasis on local search and utility for users interested in exploring entertainment options in and around the nation's capital.
