I recall that QCOM often updates its guidance prior to an analyst meeting so that they can discuss the new guidance without violating SEC disclosure rules, which prevent disclosing key information ONLY to analysts. This is a fairly recent rule change and would explain the new guidance on the eve of the analyst day in New York, May 13.
