You don't think our own cities' police function and the apprehension, detention, and interrogation of criminal suspects on a daily basis in conformity with the US Constitution are critical??? Let alone probably the MOST CRITICAL function of city government, one that that is well established procedurally, not taking place in a hostile fire zone, and a walk in the park compared to a war in Iraq?
Why are there civil rights abuses, and even wrongful deaths, in US cities, caused by their own police departments? Should entire city and state governments be fired or forced to resign because of police abuse? Your answer, based on your logic, an unequivocal "yes."
There are lots of critical aspects to the war, buster -- feeding and arming the troops, logistics, planning and carrying out operations, as well as detention and interrogation, etc., etc., etc.
There are systems in place that are part of the "system" and have been since we had a military. Rumsfeld didn't invent them for this war, and I suspect neither he nor Meyers micromanaged them in this war, either.
Any more than the governor of NY and Rudy Giulianni micromanaged or were responsible for the apprehension and sodomy of Abnew Louima by NYPD police officer Justin Volpe, or the governor of CA and Mayor of LA micromanaged or were responsible for the LAPD beating of Rodney King. |
