Derek,
With all due respect, myself and my son are considering Kerry. We were both very big guys. The prison thing is just the straw that broke the camels back. Bush has shown loyalty but not leadership. Having Rudy or Powell or even McCain as Veep would be a big thing for me. It would indicate a reassessment of the Rumsfeld doctrine of War Lite and War without domestic consequences that i think is necessary. I extrapolate that there are many independents like me and my son who are now in play. Same goes on the other side if Kerry were somehow able to get McCain on his ticket. Theres a great article in the NYT today quoting Bill Kristol as saying there are four types of republican views regarding Iraq. The article also says many, many republicans are furious with Rummy and want him out.
This is the time we set the groundwork for winning the peace and then exiting iraq. This requires policies different from DOD view. IF we dont adopt an alternate cost, we will get Kerry and he will and truth be told Kerry's expected team on fp will be better than bushes current failed one. So Bush needs to find away to get back on course before guys like me abandon him. Mike
