Samsung Unveils New Memory Chip For Handsets, PDAs
Provided By Pinnacor, 05.13.04, 1:42 PM ET

Samsung Electronics said Wednesday it has developed new memory chips for mobile gadgets that are four times as fast as conventional chips.

The world's largest chipmaker Wednesday unveiled the 1.1-gigabit DDR SDRAM chip made specifically for handsets or personal digital assistants, the Korea Times reported.

Samsung's product has several advantages over previous versions, such as its small size and low power consumption, making it perfect for third-generation phones, according to the company.

"The new chip will ease the design challenges for 3G cell phone makers of delivering high-quality video and gaming features in a small form and with low power consumption," a Samsung spokesman said.

With the release of the 1.1-gigabit chip, three-dimensional features can be operated through mobile handsets, which was previously impossible with the legacy 256-megabit mobile chip.
