I could be wrong, of course, but when I ask myself what the average Iraqi would prefer, to be in the hands of the asses who mistreated detainees, or to be in the hands of the terrorists who hacked that poor fellow to death, I have to say that the Americans win, even on the worst view of the matter. Factor in the impressive difference in the way that the American government treats such matters, with all of these apologies and commissions and trials, and I would rather be in an American prison than any prison in the region. I do not think we are losing, when push comes to shove. Anyway, sovereignty will pass to the Iraqis soon, and a lot of this will become their responsibility to work out........
