Tom, after reading patent 6723421 once again, I realize that it describes a material that is partially amorphous with 2 dimensional crystal-like islands in between, and has entirely new properties, with a bandgap of about 1.4 or 1.5 eV. Crystaline silicon is 1.1 eV, and amorphous is 1.8 eV, so this material is intermediate, and should lead to increased the efficiencies that Stan has been talking about.
