Looks like it was written by the DNC instead of a Post staff reporter.

Look at the bright side--at least now Post readers know that there have actually been newspapers outside the US supporting the war. That was my thinking when I posted it. <g>

Now that I've seen your reaction to it, I have some further comments. I think that the recent change of heart of some war advocates is a very big story. I'm sure I would think that regardless of my view on the war because human behavior, particularly group behavior, is a fascinating part of life and this is an important matter. It's not often that one gets to watch massive change over a concentrated period and thus be able to easily watch it. Usually change is slow and diffuse and thus nearly invisible. I have been following this since the earliest stages and posted my observations about it a couple of times. I can understand why war advocates don't want to see the story get attention. And it's an awkward story for the media to cover because of the dynamics you mention.

I think that the war advocates are making a mistake in isolating or denying what is happening because then they lose influence over it. Everyone I know in 3D who advocated the war in Iraq has now had a turnaround. The problem is that the turnaround has been 180 degrees as is typical of those who are in the throes of dealing with dramatic self-questioning. From advocate to cut and run in one quick step. You know my views on this war--we shouldn't have started it, but since we did, we have to finish it. So I don't consider that overreaction to be any more favorable than the overreaction that caused them to advocate the war in the first place.

It seems to de that the gung-ho Bushies would be better off recognizing and trying to manage the inevitable shift than denying or berating it. And the country at large would be better off, too.
