o then FINALLY I got home and logged on and everything worked FINE for an hour, when suddenly I began having horrible caching problems

Janice, do you keep a fire extinguisher handy? Seriously! I have a friend who's IBM 486 Notebook caught fire and he had to put it out with an extinguisher! Not saying that will happen in your case, but one never knows. It sounds like the power supply is not providing adequate voltage to the motherboard, that could cause software to act strangely and lead to other sytem problems. I'm not sure I would trust that strange supply they set you up with. Perhaps you could have a friend in the states send you the correct replacement? Or maybe one of those DELL shareholders could talk you into a new DELL? <GG>

Good luck,
Derek
