When I've told you that the media you refer to cannot be liberal because most liberals reject whatever message we perceive the media has for us...I then encounter your core sermon that the left cannot even recognize their own beliefs. But it is never a very convincing argument, Bill, to anyone not of the faith. Especially after you trip over your own bias by defining FOX as being at the center.
I don't think most Liberals reject the major press and TV. If they are far left, they might wish it was more to the left. Do you think the NYT is MOR? You are willing to accept the label of Liberal, most aren't.
The left in the media can recognize their own beliefs. They think the left is ANSWER and the NATION, and think they are MOR. Most leftists today prefer to think of themselves as "progressives."
Yes, Fox News tends to be MOR, from what little I have seen of it. You may have noticed Kholt's comment on her experience of watching it for two weeks and finding it so. I trust her judgement on this subject. Their on air columnists and announcers, such as O'Reilly, are Right. They have a group of MOR/left opinion people, more than CNN, for instance, has on the right. The right at CNN for years was Bob Novak, with the occasional appearance of Buchanan.
My bias comes out of a very strong Cato/Reason position that went Neocon on FA after 911. I would fit very well now in Politics back in my old haunt of California as an "Eagle." Economic conservative, Social Liberal. Here in the Islands, I am just an old white guy nobody listens to. This place is run by the Unions who have ethnic Japanese in charge. We make a living as a tropical Disneyland for Japan.
You will find I post a lot from followers of Hayek on economics, and from Reason on Social issues. The split now in the major Academia of Economists going over to Hayek is almost complete. That is why the rest of the SS profs don't get along with Economists any more. |
