I think that if the proposal on the table was a clean, expense at exercise approach, the results might have been different.

LOL... now you really have me laughing.

An expense at exercise approach would have techland even more up in arms. And that would *really* penalize those IPOs of yours.

Maybe think for a second why this is. I'll give you a hint: "selection bias".

There aren't 100 congresspeople in the pocket of the tech lobby... it is really only the tech centers that are concerned about this. Constituents want expensing. So you tell me, what happened if this model is so great.

What happened?

Self-serving behavior happened, that's what. When you work out who benefits from the expensing (the general investing public) and who benefits from continued financial sleight of hand (a concentrated handful powerful corporate insiders), it's not hard to figure out which way the political pundits will lean.
