When fighting an insurgency, the border length of interest is the border length over which supplies and material supporting the enemy can be moved.

Hey nimrod.. You can't move those supplies around a border that you can't get to if we moved to cut off the supply line in the FIRST PLACE!!

The two Vietnams shared a VERY SHORT BORDER!! It was ONLY due to North Vietnam violation of Laotian neutrality that they were able to reach into Cambodia and the Mekong Delta area..

Of course in your twisted version of reality, the Laotions would have welcomed us with open arms, just like the Iraqis did, LOL.

We were ASKED to provide assistance to the King of Laos:

As the Civil War progressed in Laos it was generally characterized by dry season Communist advances (November - April), and with an emphasis on counter-offenses by Royal Lao Government forces in rainy seasons (May - October).
Situations inside Laos deteriorated to the point that our U.S. government was asked by the King of Laos and Prince Souvanna Phouma, for urgent assistance.

There was a dire need for a Laotian ability to counter the Communists, but due to Geneva Convention Accords of 1954 & 1962 (signed by world governments) made it illegal for foreign military powers to intervene in Laos situations ; to provide combatants, etc., so all such assistance and related aid should NOT have any obvious U.S. military 'combatant' connections.

Some of the tribes would have supported us, some would not have.. Some would have switched sides with tremendous regularity, dependent upon how much money you paid them.. This is very similiar to Iraq and Afghanistan..

Maybe you need to read up on Laotian history.. One of my best friend's girlfriends is Hmong. She said her father had some "interesting" stories to tell about how the Vietnamese would treat her people.

Eventually you're going to have to get used to the concept that the enemy doesn't play by the rules. Tough titty.

Obviously your's certainly was... Or your momma was diluting your formula.

As for not fighting fair... THAT'S MY ENTIRE FRIGGIN' POINT YOU KNUCKLEHEAD!! They don't fight fair, so you can't permit yourself to be held by meaningless treaties that the other side is obviously ignoring.

And unless you're willing to threaten them in the same, or more severe, manner tha they are threatening you, then your cause is doomed..
