I know I said yesterday that everyone should see it. Changed my mind.

The ugliness of war is difficult to look at up close.
And yet there was much missing from the Berg death film including the odor of a large quantity of blood, the gurgling, and the stench of body fluids being released.

That kind of violence is so outrageous it numbs for a moment. Then causes various degrees of sadness, anger and fear. Many get the shakes when witnessing violent, bloody death in person.

We have approx 25 million veterans. Estimates I have seen indicate about 3-4 million have seen battlefield deaths. A lesser number have actually done the killing. 99% of Americans have not seen war first-hand. Their war experience is from censored TV.

It has often been said that nobody hates war more than those who have fought one. It has been said so often that it is meaningless to most. But for those who been there, for those who lived on the edge of life and death on a battlefield, for those who have participated in the slaughter, it has great meaning. Berg died in 30 seconds. We have three million Veterans who have had similar visions seared on their brains over and over for weeks, months and years. Those visions and smells may fade. They never go away.

I hope you don't forget Berg's death. I happen to think a confrontation with our own mortality may give us an appreciation for what our enemies plan for us when they say they intend to kill all Jews, kill all Christians and kill all Americans.

The weak and the unlucky die first on battlefields. The strong and those willing to fight are far more likely to survive. We must be very careful that the current images do not rob of us of our will to fight.
For when the scenes of Berg's bloody murder make us turn from the fight, when they make us sick and tired of the war, when they make us want to get out at all cost, America will be doomed.

Our enemies are determined. The decision that must be made is do we love freedom more than we hate war.
