Can you say "scrooge?" That is the approach that gets you voted out of office. If we got rid of all programs that "solved" the problem they were aimed at, nothing would be left. Taking that approach to welfare is self defeating.

The intellectual thrust of the right on all programs is to define the problem, and look for a solution that gets it done better, cheaper, and with less government employees. A Government solution is always the most expensive way to go at it.
