David, have you reached any conclusions? I saw IHS named among four major home health care providers as potential takers of pieces of Columbia (All of the four declined/were unavailable to comment on that speculation). IMHO that's about the only way the Rotech deal could be scotched - if IHS were to announce another acquisition at this point, their price would likely drop.
Everything I've read indicates that consolidation in this sector is inevitable, that the niche Rotech has been operating within is vaporizing. If true, that would make the question: If not IHS, then who should Rotech ally with?
If you have thoughts on this I'd love to hear them.
