Now that it hasn't turned out to be real easy, some of the support falls away. You are left trying to make the case that a) it's important to win and b) we are making progress. If the Administration sticks with the party line that the original concept is still viable and that we're making progress, the wobblers will panic and opt for pull-out. If the Administration takes the approach that, regardless of what anyone may have come to think of the war given the current status, pull-out is not a good option and why, the stampede can be avoided, IMO. It's very hard to make this case when the mainstream media... I agree with you that managing the news is unfeasible if they stick to the same old story. If they want to get the media, if not on their side, at least reporting something favorable, they have to change the line. If they shift gears, that will be news and it will be reported. Throw the press and the wobblers a few bones and they might even get a rally. It wouldn't be at all difficult to make the argument that pull-out is a mistake regardless of what one thinks of how we got to where we are.
