Robert; I looked at the first list from avaloncity, and found some facts that I knew were wrong which threw doubts into the rest of it. But it does recount some good facts that might be encouraging. One was that Apple was ahead of Microsoft in the fortune 500 list, but Microsoft made over $2 billion and Apple lost $600+ million, and Gates could buy Apple 8 times over with share value(SH equity), but was in decline whereas Microsoft was climbing. An error I noted was the comment that Apple leads in the K12 educational market. In fact Wintel leads that market, but very few of the name brands show except Apple. Most computers are generic Wintel clones as the school boards learned to stay away from IBM,COMPAQ, etc long ago. So when they say that Apple leads, it leads IBM COMPAQ etc, who have lost hat market. It reminds me of the anecdote about a race between a Russian car and an American car a few years ago. The American car won by far, however the Russian car was reported to have done very well, coming second, and the American car did badly, being next to last. This report was in Russia, and the avalon article was in a Mac paper??) However the Apple clones are rare in Canada. In general I found enough errors etc in the avalong piece to make me suspect about half of it to be self serving stuff. Ya gotta see through this or you get wiped out in a war.
I noted that Apple was far higher in the past on the 500 list, and at the current burn rate has only 2-3 years of cash left. So we cannot allow self serving articles like that the make us complacent, Apple is in peril in the real world, and no amount of whitewash will prevent the fall, only concrete proper actions.
Did anyone ever find out what sort of fee an Apple cloner pays for his right? Bill |
