In Chinese one says mei jin as a name for the US dollar; it means as you of course know "American Gold." This is indicative of a historic respect for the US currency all around the world. From that fascinating material you kindly posted one gets the feel that US govt. debt and US dollars will be tolerated for a much longer period than would be the case for a Latin American country. Also the inheritance of a fairly good position as far as debt is concerned may take a number of years before it is totally squandered. In short the long term gets worse and worse but the dollar and US debt in the short term are totally unpredictable and liable to show more strength than they logically deserve. A big lesson for me.
Thanks indeed.
