Magna Charta was signed in 1215. English kings and queens have come and gone, Parliaments have come and gone, Prime Ministers have come and gone, but Magna Charta has endured.

If you know of any time that England, per se, was "in bondage" -- I'd be surprised.

Jamestown was established in 1607 and I don't believe there has been a time when the inhabitants of Virginia were "in bondage" -- except for blacks who were enslaved until 1865, but that's not what your essay meant.

I am wracking my brains trying to think of examples that support the point of your email. Maybe he means something different than I do when he talks about "bondage."
