I think the lesson of the Clinton/Rubin economy was, if you pay as you go, you will be rewarded with a growing economy that investors have confidence in. If you actually begin to get close to retiring debt, investors can get so excited they can create a bubble. Bush has put us even further away from retiring any debt. In four years of Republican rule, we've lost eight years of divided government progress. I'm looking forward to Kerry not being able to pass any big spending programs, but being able to veto Republican pork. The best of both worlds.
