I think that it is entirely likely that we have contingency plans to neutralize Pakistan's nuclear capability if Musharraf should be overthrown and an Islamic fundamentalist government should take over.

It would be the height of negligence for us - whether with a Republican or Democrat in the White House - not to have such contingency plans. Also, since Israel would be threatened by nuclear weapons falling into the hands of such a government, their assistance is also conceivable. I would not rule out that a similar arrangement has been made to seek the assistance of India if this should occur.

Do you seriously believe that given our concerns about WMD falling into the hands of terrorists, the US would risk leaving nuclear weapons in the possession of a Pakistan that is run by a fundamentalist regime?

Both the US and Pakistan are involved in an alliance of convenience and there are no illusions on either side as to this fact.

For you to believe Bush's denial of Hersh's story is just naive. Did you think that Bush was going to acknowledge to Musharraf that there are such contingency plans?
