Maybe not today, except for the routine and pointless degradation of Iraqi prisoners. But what you don't hear about is what has happened in the middle east in Gaza and in WWII too. The routine rifle execution of civilians by soldiers. 2 million in Germany, and an unknown number in Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Gaza Strip. Astonishing. Disturbing. Documented.

The point is not that US cruelty or an out of control military cancels out cruelty of the enemy. It does not. It makes their cruelty and degrading practices more plausible. That we are the only good guys is not tenable. It is unthinkable. It is untrue.

We had prison camps. Nobody got typhus, we shot real small numbers of people. Only a few hundred. We divested 1000's of all their property. Our main weapons are dollars. We are somewhat more civilized. A tad.

We are as bad as the enemy in many ways. Perhaps in nearly every way.

Ask Pogo.
