it was mostly ram for Dell, and general component costs which were higher due to logistics (fuel mostly, is my guess). Still, this is what inflation looks like.

I see futures are down again, if we are in for an extended 70s like financial period its probably best to leave the markets altogether. I'm sure getting tired of these never ending bear markets.

Dell Profit and Revenue Rise, So Do Costs

Higher dynamic random access memory prices cost Dell about $10 more per unit in April than expected, and it could only recover one-third of that increase, Schneider said. Tight supplies of flat panel displays kept those prices from falling as well, he said.

Memory costs are leveling, Schneider said, adding it should hopefully be less of an issue in the second quarter. The change in prices was a surprise to Dell, which earlier in the quarter had said the rate of component price decreases was quickening.

The higher prices weighed on gross margins, or net sales less the cost of goods sold divided by sales, which slipped to 18 percent from 18.2 percent in the previous quarter and 18.3 percent a year earlier.
