My principle is, if it makes no sense, it's not true. It makes no sense to connect homosexuality with the fall of empires. In fact, one of the greatest empires, the Greek, which gave us much of the best in Western culture, considered homosexual liaisons ordinary amusements -- not at the time of its fall, but throughout, and its fall had nothing to do with homosexuality. But of course there's more, if you want to get into it, like the fact that homosexuality presents no obstacle to great accomplishment. Michaelangelo and Leonardo were not the reason why Italy lost its pre-eminence as Europe's banker -- they were a reason why Italian ideas of the Renaissance spread over the known world, and broke the back of the Middle Ages.
