Monday May 17, 7:45 am ET

World's Largest Retailer Recognizes HP as Top Enterprise Technology Provider

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 2004--HP (NYSE:HPQ - News; Nasdaq:HPQ - News) today announced that it has been named Wal-Mart "Technology Supplier of the Year" for 2003. Wal-Mart's Supplier of the Year awards recognize those who demonstrate excellence in product performance, pricing and customer service.

The 2003 Technology Supplier of the Year award is based on Wal-Mart's deployment of HP technology solutions to better support its industry-leading level of customer service on a global basis.

"This recognition of HP is a tribute to the organization, its people and its products," said Linda Dillman, executive vice president and chief information officer, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. "This is an honor reserved for only a few selected suppliers. It singles out the best of the best."

Wal-Mart has deployed HP technology in its headquarters, all of its distribution centers and hundreds of its stores worldwide, including its Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets and SAM'S CLUBS. Working with Wal-Mart for 15 years, HP provides PCs, UNIX® servers, HP OpenView management software, storage and professional services, in addition to overseeing several major IT projects for Wal-Mart per year. HP and Wal-Mart also collaborate in other areas that serve the entire business community, such as radio frequency identification (RFID).

"HP is honored to receive Wal-Mart's recognition for our enterprise IT solutions," said Jim Milton, senior vice president, Customer Solutions Group, and managing director, HP Americas. "The strength of the relationship between supplier and retailer can best be measured in terms of improved business efficiency and better customer service. This award recognizes the value of our innovative technologies in helping the world's largest retailer to build an enterprise that can adapt in real time to business needs."
