If there is really an existential threat here, perhaps now is the time to explain it anew.

I don't think it is an existential threat per se, in the sense that we will cease to exist as a country. However, any of these events, if they occur, could make our life miserable and debilitate our response to further terrorism. Economically, any of these events could precipitate a Depression.

While the damage and injury to physical structures and people from the events listed below is real, perhaps the most damaging thing would be to the way we conduct ourselves. We could very well see anarchy, martial law, curtailment of civil liberties, gags on the media, any number of things I think we can't live without. They define us a country. In other words, the end of the US as we know it.

1.- Multiple nukes exploding over NYC, Los Angeles, and DC. Recall that AQ favors multiple events taking place at the same time.

2.- Multiple dirty nukes in those cities, especially NYC in the Wall St. area, which could make large part of those cities uninhabitable for decades.

3.- Multiple chemical or bacteriological attacks on populations in those cities.

4.- Takeover of ME oil fields with shutting off of oil to the West.

5.- Infrastructure attacks--dams, the Web, nuclear power facilities, bridges, railroads, Mississippi River levees, offshore oil ports such as the ones in offshore Texas, Louisiana, and the Caribbean, etc. The list can get very long.

I am convinced after doing a lot of reading on the subject that we are not prepared for any of these events. The Homeland Security stuff is a joke. We have been lucky, so far.
