Sorry for the confusion. I thought I made it clear that the threat to the physical structures and the bulk of the people of our country is not existential, in the sense that they are subject to overwhelming destruction but that the danger to our values and our way of life definitely is. One is just as important as the other, in my view This is what I said:
I don't think it is an existential threat per se, in the sense that we will cease to exist as a country. However, any of these events, if they occur, could make our life miserable and debilitate our response to further terrorism. Economically, any of these events could precipitate a Depression.
While the damage and injury to physical structures and people from the events listed below is real, perhaps the most damaging thing would be to the way we conduct ourselves. We could very well see anarchy, martial law, curtailment of civil liberties, gags on the media, any number of things I think we can't live without. They define us a country. In other words, the end of the US as we know it. |
