One need not always agree with tek, Nadine. He's a foreign policy expert, not necessarily an expert journalistic commentator.

As for the story, this one has legs well beyond the usual metaphor of legs. Newsweek, as you know, has much the same story; it will be dragged to its very last drop.

It's hard to imagine the Senate stonewalling now; so we could easily see a serious Senate or bi-partisan investigation on this, on the order of the 9-11 stuff (breaking the Geneva Conventions is no small matter, and McCain will drive that bit very hard). The only way Bush heads it off, at least that I can see, is to push Rumsfeld off the train and find someone the Senate respects to take his place. Perhaps Colin Powell???!!!

Interesting to hear on Chris Mathews just now. An exchange between Chris and Howard Fineman. Both, independently, heard from separate Pennsylvania political sources they trusted, that Tom Ridge had been talked to about taking Cheney's place on the ticket.

Remember that while the Bush family is famous for its loyalty; it is also about as ruthless as they come at protecting their own self interest.
