Apparantly huge parts of their backroom operations operate without any computerization. It's all quintuplicate forms being walked around different departments.

I wonder if all British banks have the same Third World Bank level of sophistication.


When I moved back to Britain in the late 80s from Israel I was surprised at how uncomputerised the banks were compared to Israel. The local branches of Barclays in London were looking at microfiches (while in Israel you could buy mutual funds at an ATM type terminal). Maybe they still lag other countries though that would be hard to believe....
