Whoa, John, aren't you jumping to the conclusion that Hersh's report is as good as gold and the Senate investigation will only confirm it? Seems to me that the results of the investigation - especially if we have a parade of witnesses explaining just how many ways Hersh screwed up his story - may yield another result. As for public pressure, it is still more concerned about preventing another 9/11 than in defeating Bush. Unbelievable I know, but true. Don't count on public pressure to keep up the self-flagellation for six months.

My money still says that Rumsfeld is going to stay (unless some yet-undisclosed bombshell can be pinned directly on him). Because fundamentally, Bush believes that jettisoning Rumsfeld would not help him politically (his opponents would only demand more) and would destroy the much-needed efforts to reform the Pentagon.
