Since it is clear that Chirac was NOT going to vote for an authorization of force, what did he need to access for another month?

He wanted to let the inspections go forward...same as Germany, Russia and the majority of the UN including all of the Arab nations that were in the previous coalition against Saddam. Yes he was not going to vote for the resolution at that time. But that doesn't mean he, and other leaders would not have reconsidered at a later date.

But since there were no WMD...as the inspections went forward the reasons that Bush gave for war and imminent threat would not have been there. After all they were getting their intelligence for a guy named "curveball". An associate of Chalabi, Cheney's main man from the INC...a convicted criminal for bank fraud in Jordan. Sounds like a solid place to found evidence of WMD to me.

Yet in the mean time 200,000 troops should have been deployed to Afghanistan in an all out root out of bin Laden. Saddam would have started to get the message with that kind of an assault. Who knows who would have come forward next...Libya, Iran...Iraq even.

I don't complain about the 20,000 dead. It is a fact that is verifiable. Some people have the number as high as 40,000 dead. Depends on if you add up military and Civilian deaths. Many many more wounded and disfigured for life.

You say that Saddam was killing 20,000 every month. I don't think that you can prove that. That is a number you pulled out of your butt. With the pressure we were putting on Saddam he was not killing anyone. Saddam killed a bunch of his own people...kurds in the north back in late 80's and Shiites in the south post 91 in a the failed uprising that was encouraged by Bush I. Can you prove in the years before the invasion of '03 that Saddam was killing 120,000 a year? I doubt that you can...because it's a neocon fantasy unsupported by reality.
