I posted the brooks article as well and highlighted those same lines in my post. Your call to bush is the same one that i have been making. For america to win the WOT folks from the center and yes, even the moderate left, must be brought onboard. This reminds me of the time in the late 40s when the left split between pro-american and communist/communist symphathisers. If the left had remained more like its european counterpart, we may not have won the cold war.
Same here and now. And just like then we have a McCarthyite wing on the right who won't take any on the left as allies and paint them with the broad anti-american brush. Listen to Hannity and Rush and those folks and some of the posters here as well and you will get much of that. And even those on the right like Lindsay Graham, Ralph Peters, and even John McCain are now viewed as kind of an enemy. A pax on the extreme left and the intolerant right. Brooks understands this well because he was part of the intolerant right and now has crossed over. Mike
