Chung, demand exceeds supply for ALL kinds of programmers, not just Java. In fact, the highest demand right now seems to be for C++ and some specialties, like Oracle. (I see in some local body shop ads that they are paying more for Oracle than for C++).

I have not seen any particularly high demand for Java. Perhaps this is becuase I am in San Diego, somewhat away from the core of cutting-edge development, and certainly away from corporate development (there are almost no corporate headquarters here).

In fact, I suspect that salaries are somewhat lower for Java programmers, because there are a lot of people who would practically do it for free, to get it on their resume'. I also suspect that there are plenty of recent university grads hyped on Java who are convinced that it's the only way to program - more so than there are managers willing to chance it right now.
