Atmel's secureAVR(TM) Architecture Selected for the Next Generation Vitale(TM) French National Health Card

Tuesday May 18, 8:01 am ET

ROUSSET, France, May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML - News) is proud to announce today that its secureAVR(TM) architecture has been selected as one of the two silicon platforms for the development contract of the next generation Vitale(TM) French National Health Card, recently awarded to SAGEM by the GIE SESAM-VITALE.
Atmel's secureAVR architecture is based on an 8-bit/16-bit RISC core specifically tailored to host highly secure applications like banking or government ones. Many of Atmel's secure microcontrollers based on this architecture have already been granted Common Criteria certification to EAL4+ augmented to AVA-VLA.4. This vulnerability assessment corresponds to today's highest known proven resistance against any security attack. In addition, Atmel's secureAVR architecture features the new AdvX(TM) crypto accelerator for an increased PKI performance and a significant security enhancement.

Atmel's secureAVR architecture was selected by SAGEM as being ideally suited to meet the requirements in terms of a high performance secure platform at a very competitive price. In addition, Atmel currently supplies secure microcontrollers for the first generation Vitale card which has already been issued to tens of millions French people. After last year's contract award for the development of the new French EMV DDA "CB" banking card, this new success marks for Atmel the second fruitful partnership with SAGEM.

Olivier Debelleix, Atmel's Smart Card IC Marketing Manager for Government Applications, said "We are very pleased to start a new partnership with SAGEM for this very prestigious contract. Atmel's expertise to design highly secure Smart Card ICs has once again been rewarded. Our corporate commitment is to serve Government markets with our best products."
