People buy new computers and operating systems just to clean out the junk and start over.

Great point philv...one that I never gave a lot of thought to until you mentioned it. I know many people who have gotten very frustrated with their computers (probably for that very reason) and either put it in the closet (an elderly neighbor of mine) or gone out and purchased a new one thinking that their's was botched beyond repair.
